  12.      IMPACT Compression provides analog video input, output and real-time JPEG
  13.      compression and decompression for the Indigo2 IMPACT line of desktop
  14.      workstations.

  16.      IMPACT Compression on the Indigo2 IMPACT platform works with the R4400
  17.      CPU and the Solid IMPACT, High IMPACT, and Maximum IMPACT graphics board
  18.      sets. It can also be used with the IMPACT Video option to provide digital
  19.      I/O and other functionalty.

  44.      Applets demonstrating the abilities of the IMPACT Compression device are
  45.      available if impactcomp.sw.examples is installed. The source code  for
  46.      the examples is installed in the
  47.      /usr/people/4Dgifts/examples/dmedia/compression/impactcomp directory.

  50.      * blendicomp: Real-time decompression of a JPEG compressed
  51.        movie file, alpha blended with graphics (Requires an
  52.        IMPACT Video option).

  56.        a selected compression ratio on the video source images.

  80.      The following are things to be aware of with the IMPACT Compression
  81.      product:

  83.      The impactcomp.sw.eoe and impactcomp_video.sw.eoe images must be
  84.      installed. These images pre-require Digital Media 5.7.
  85.  
  86.      The impactdm.sw.common and patchSG0001141 images must be installed.
  87.  
  88.      Input timing and genlock cannot be changed while any video application is
  89.      running.
  90.  
  91.      The default control values have no effect until a video path is created.
  92.      They are used as suggestions for applications such as videoin to specify
  93.      the desired input source.

  95.      The video tools supplied  in /usr/sbin are:  videoin, videoout,
  96.      videopanel, vidtomen, memtovid, vintovout, and vlinfo.

  99.      There are two sync modes in which the products can run:
  100.  
  101.      1. Internal - Used when performing graphics to video out or when the
  102.      input video signal is poor quality. All timing is generated internally.
  103.  
  104.      2. Genlock - Used when the output timing must be locked to an external
  105.      timing source. IMPACT Compression can genlock to the reference input or
  106.      the analog video input.
  107.

  109.      The following VL packing formats are supported by IMPACT Compression for
  110.      memory transfers. Note that the different memory nodes may support
  111.      different formats and packings. See the IMPACT Compression Programmer's
  112.      Guide for information on each node.

  114.      For memory transfers, the following packings are natively supported (i.e.
  115.      require no software conversion): VL_PACKING_YVYU_422_8,
  116.      VL_PACKING_RGBA_8.
  117.  
  118.      Additionally, the following packings are supported for transfers through
  119.      a software conversion: VL_PACKING_VUY_411_SV, VL_PACKING_RGB_332_P,
  120.      VL_PACKING_RGB_8, VL_PACKING_Y_8_P, VL_PACKING_YVYU_422_8.
